Back to the Past

Nicknames mostly just bring me back memories to when I was in intermediate and middle school. The ones I picked bring me back to the good old memories that I had, when I was much younger than I am now.

“Sweji”

This one is just a variation of the many that people could have called me. Usually substitutes or teachers that I meet on the first day have trouble pronouncing my name, but by now though I’m pretty used to it. This particularly was made by Britt in 6th grade whenever the name variations weren’t that bad yet, so I could deal with it. Then last year at my English table, we got super close and made nicknames for each other and that’s when this appeared again. I don’t mind my close friends calling me this, but I do prefer to be called by my name.

“Sue to the G”

This all started in 5th grade in social studies class when my teacher, Mr.Ireland, thought it would be nice to come up with nicknames of people. If you can’t already tell my name isn’t all that common, it’s not common at all in English (in Korean it is). So one day he tossed me a peppermint while we were playing a game to study for a test, saying “Sue to the G catch this”,and after that until 5th grade was over he called me that. An important part is that my 6th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Matzig, also called me by that exact same nickname just because it was a “cool” nickname.

“Dantan Chosan”

First, this is all Jennifer’s idea and it got kind of out of hand. This is was in middle school when I liked two guys at the same time (you can tell by the name) and she thought it was very funny. At that time we had English together (we still do haha) and we were doing an assignment where we had to put a bunch of our work in a manila folder. Well, she drew DANTAN CHOSAN all over that folder, which eventually I had to take that home and replace it with a new folder. She also made many little paper notes with heart shaped eyes, which I also had to take home so no one else say that. The rest you can ask Jennifer (but not literally every detail).

Goodness, i guess with a name as original as yours, you don’t really need a nickname; however the ones you do have are quite impressive. I LOVE “sweji” and can remember exactly how you had gotten it. It brings me back to our intermediate/middle school days when we had first met.
